The Quiet Power of a Different Angle

Yesterday I walked into a room full of mirrors.

Suddenly, the same person was everywhere. In front of me, from the side, from behind, reflected at different angles. And I started thinking about how often we do the opposite in our lives. We look at a situation from one particular position and, over time, start believing that this is the only way to see it.

A difficult decision becomes a dead end.A failure becomes proof that we didn't succeed.A change becomes a loss.

But what happens when we shift our position?

Not necessarily to change the reality, but simply to see it from a different angle.

This is one of the things I value about coaching. We don't always need to find the answer immediately. Sometimes we first need the space to explore what else might be there.

Another interpretation.Another possibility.A question we hadn't thought to ask.

And there was something else about that room that stayed with me.

I wasn't trying to see things differently. I was playing.

I moved around. I observed. I experimented.

And it made me think about how often we associate personal growth with hard work: effort, discipline, goals, overcoming.

All of these have their place.

But perhaps growth needs something else too:

curiosity, joy, creativity and play.

Maybe we don't always need to try harder.

Maybe sometimes we simply need to look at things from a different angle.

And see what appears from there.
